Hope you all get some great ideas on how to organize all the "stuff" that comes with kids!
We had so many kids DVD's in our TV cabinet. There were too many to all fit in the cabinet and the kids were always getting into them and wanting to play with them. We have had several casualties to the kids stepping on them or scratching them etc. Well I decided to ditch the cases and store them in sleeves.....Here is the pile of empty cases....
These are the sleeves I found at The Container Store. They can go in any 3 ring binder and I had several empty ones around the house. $9.99 for 80 sleeves (Well 80 slots really). Here are all those DVD's in one binder.....so much less to store!!
I hated to get rid of all the cases but I knew we should. Half of them were broken anyway. I didn't want to get rid of all the covers though. I took the covers out and punched holes in them and put them in a seperate binder. They are in roughly the same order as the DVD's. I thought that way the kids can look at the covers and pick the movie and then we will get the DVD. It is hard for them to pick the movie without seeing the cover. All those DVD's, over 90 of them fit in the pink binder and all the covers in the blue one......Much better!!

What a great idea. I need to do this sooooo bad, but I don't think I can bring myself to get rid of all those cases just yet. I might need to do it in stages...make it less painful (lol)!
That is really creative and very doable. I have the same problem and some DVDs have gotten ruined by little hands playing with them. I may have to implement this!
What a wonderful idea! I will definitely have to try this!
Thanks for the tip.:)
Wow, I can't believe how much space you saved doing that. I'm going to have to seriously think about it (I have a real thing about throwing out the boxes/covers because I sell at consignment sales). But I could probably store them in the basement in a box or something! Great Idea!

Loved that idea...I've moved mine to special binders, but they are taking up too much room...probably because they're padded and designed to hold DVDs...I'm definitely going to think about switching them over. For parents of older kids - the ones that want to test the boundaries, just one note: we separated our DVDs by age-appropriateness, too. One binder they can have free rein and one isn't for them.
Brilliant idea - maybe copying this one for sure!
I did this not so long ago. It's one of the best things to do ever! I got the idea from my sister-in-law. What a space saver!
hi! i found your blog through the shabby nest. what a fantastic idea!!! i'm so going to have to do this. thanks for sharing!
Great idea - the binder. i'm going to get one for the car, and one for my Tae Bo teaching music. I haven't seen one that hold so many discs!
Oh good heavens...that idea is brilliant! It's so simple yet so creative! Thanks for sharing!!!!!!
What a great idea! Most of my daughters movies fit on a shelf on her bookcase. But, it will soon be outgrown
Great idea!
BTW, I love the pictures of your children in their matching smocked outfits--absolutely adorable!

Great clutter buster! Thanks for visiting my blog today, I'm a fellow Ohioan! I hope you come back soon.
I will have to try this. Thanks for the idea!
Wow-that would save SO much space! Great idea, thanks for sharing!
love the idea. My DVDs are just stacked here there and everywhere around the TV. We don't have THAT many, but still... it's bad. I'd have no problem throwing the cases and the cardboard info thing away.
As for cloth diapers... I've used a variety of things, but liked BumGenius one-size pockets up to 6 months. At 6 months, my guy was such a porker I could go on to size large, so I sold the pockets and bought all-in-ones. A year later, they still fit. He's gotten taller, but not fatter. I found NEW magic-alls (apparently, the older style that is no longer made) on ebay and bought a ton. But I also have some BumGenius all in ones and like them too.
I've loved using them, it has actually been easier than I though. ESPECIALLY in the beginning when it is just breastmilk poo... and since I BF for a year w/o giving anything else, it made it super easy. Not so easy NOW, but I still use them. I just have to take a break every now and then to catch up on laundry since it takes longer to wash the poo ones now (ew, I know)
And seriously, you can't beat the cuteness!
love this idea..........
i think i'm going to do it......
i just looked at every link, and i learned more from yours than any of the rest! yeah!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! DVD's are such an issue in our house and this is such a wonderful idea! My hubby will love it, too!!

WHat a GREAT idea! We too have piles of DVDs/Wii games.
I see a trip to the Container Store in my future :)
Thanks for visiting my blog today!
We just did this too...I can't believe how MUCH space those little cases take up! I love how your project turned out! {I didn't keep the covers...I love that you did!}
My kids are also really messy with our DVD's as well as Playstation & Wii games. They NEVER put them back in their cases so it really is pointless to keep them. Great idea.
This is brilliant! I have been looking for a solution for awhile now. Going to try this out.
Thanks!
I never thought to keep the covers.Hole punching them was brilliant!
Great idea so glad you shared!

Great idea! My girlies would be upset if I got rid of our cases, they make houses out of them, talk about a mess:)

Now that is a GREAT idea! I've got some of the kids' dvds in a travel carrier but I bet it'd be great for the rest of the movies too. We've done that for all our music cd's- since now we use ipods.
I LOVE this idea! the binders look so nice sitting on your shelf much better than all the plastic covers. What a space saver.
I did something similar to that a year ago and held onto the containers for a couple months before I realized it was all okay to let it go. Isn't it fabulous to have it all in one place???
